I know that this is a sensitive topic but wanted to start a discussion on it, since it is very relevant to the future of the sport and since it is a little bit different from most of the previous volleyball cases and discussions I read on VT before signing up as forum member ( I am referring to this volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/68494/approves-transgendered-woman-womens-volleyball and this volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/59091/gender-issues-volleyball-sports).
Different from other players that have played pro ball, Tifanny is now signed to a top tier team in a top tier league. Also, she has played in top tier leagues as a man before in the Brazilian Men's Superliga and in in Portugal, Indonesia, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands and France. Tifanny is also 6'5" and can currently spike at over 10ft, and upon her dominating play on Italy's A2 league, here is how her opponents reacted:
"We had two different games, one before she was in it, one after she subbed in. On a personal level, she has all my respect for all that she has gone through. But on a sporting level, her physical parameters are not those of a woman. I had the luck of playing in the A1 league last year, and did not see many players that can jump and attack at the level she does."
Even though legally a woman with woman like testosterone level, Tifanny was a man for over 25 years, thus she greatly benefited from having a male body in which to learn volleyball in. Besides from growing to 6'5" in height (how many female players are as tall or her or taller? In Superliga, no more than 4 or 5), she also got to learn all her techniques in a male organism, which has far superior inter and intramuscular coordination potential. And learn she did, as she was good enough to play professionally as a man.
What do you guys think? Here is the transfer article for reference: volleymob.com/tifanny-abreu-signed-bauru-will-first-superliga-trans-player/
