If we're talking young'ns there's a player for Marian HS in Michigan named Izzy Busignani who was the best all-around player in the final four -- led her team in kills and digs and was just a sophomore. Obviously Harper Murray looked more impressive hitting and we have same great DS' in the game, but I was really blown away by her all-around play at such a young age. She seems to have gone under the radar a bit on the '25 recruiting trail.

If Kubik can stay consistent and terminate, she has the passing/defense to warrant a spot on this list. Will be interesting how she holds in Italy, could see her having a very high ceiling. wonder why Karch didn't invite her for the USA team 1. She's not a top-tier arm or some kind of consistent terminator. 2. When's the last time Karch invited an OH right out of college to play for the NT? I remember Larson in a podcast saying how much harder the jump from college to pro is than from HS to college. I wonder if that jump is different among all positions - Hentz is in the NT picture despite not playing at all internationally, O'Neal was selected for VNL finals, even at setter Poulter (who admittedly is really advanced for her age) was in the picture right after college, but it seems like you need 2-3 years experience internationally at OH before you get your NT look.

I think Kubik has the potential to be an elite international outside, and that’s coming from a Texas fan
granted I’m the biggest harper murray fan on the board (unless she has a family member on here) so…

Why don't they DS Baird in the back row? Just not the Stanford way - but seems like they would be an even better college team if they used their DS's more. Their DS's were prominent in the 2021 season and IMO didn't hold their own. At that point you might as well keep Baird in. Lougeay was the only one who could serve and play D but was injured in 2022

I get why she’s not getting a look at NT yet, but her performance in PR was pretty good, and her passing and defense looked good from what I saw. Granted… it was the PR league. I hope she gets on the court for Cuneo. If she can adapt in A1, I think Kubik 2028 is on my agenda.

Correct, Baird was ok as a middle back defender and was an effective hitter from the back row, although rarely used because there was enough fire power elsewhere.

Since DS's are often not on full scholarship, I could see why Stanford (and other private schools) might struggle to have a room full of ready DS's to throw out there.

Basically every serve to Oglivie was a mistake by the opposing team. Rubin was sort of unknown so she was tested somewhat, but also Oglivie and Rubin tried to take more of the court as Baird was considered the weakest passer. Why don't they DS Baird in the back row? Just not the Stanford way - but seems like they would be an even better college team if they used their DS's more. wouldn't say its not the Stanford way... they used at least one (sometimes two) DS in their lineup every year from 2016-2021... there wasnt a better option on the bench to replace one of the 3 pins in the back row in 2022 so they didn't use one
